Fundamentals of Technology Transfer

The course

Technology transfer offices advise on all aspects of patents, copyright and contractual arrangements, and facilitate the commercial development of intellectual property by licence to spin-out and established companies. The success of any licence agreement depends on an in-depth knowledge of the legal and commercial framework, the development of a long-term relationship between the parties and a strategic understanding of the marketing of the end product.

This 2 1⁄2 -day course looks at basic aspects of all these issues:

The course is designed to give an overview of technology transfer issues in the UK. A summary of how this differs from practice in North America will be included.

Who should attend?

The course is primarily aimed at new or recently recruited staff from technology transfer or contracts offices in academic institutions, public sector research establishments and NHS. However, it will also be of interest to those in industry who work with academics or who are involved in the academic/industry interface.

Taking notes

"For me, this is a very useful introduction to an area that I only recently became aware of. I will certainly be recommending this course to colleagues in similar positions to myself."
