Essential Skills for Technology Transfer: Copyright, Designs, Trade Marks and More

12 February 2010 | Peterborough

Course Content

Copyright, software and database rights, designs, registered designs, confidential information and trade marks are all coming to increasing prominence in technology transfer. Whilst patents are the intellectual property rights traditionally focussed upon in technology transfer, these other intellectual property rights may feature in commercialisation opportunities or crop up elsewhere in your business.  Common examples are: copyright in software or teaching materials; database right in the results of epidemiological studies; designs relating to medical devices; the trade mark of your own organisation or a spin out company; confidential information which complements patents to be licensed and non-disclosure agreements.

This course will provide delegates with a working understanding of non patent IP i.e. copyright, software and database rights, designs, registered designs, confidential information and trade mark law.  The programme will focus on a practical understanding of what is protected, how it is protected, the costs of protection, ownership, and licensing   Case studies and practical exercises will be used to illustrate, using examples of particular relevance in technology transfer.
