Nora Kellock has been Head of Legal at Edinburgh Research and Innovation (the University of Edinburgh's industrial liaison company) since September 2001. She is responsible for a small legal team which attends to the University's legal work in connection with research contracts, technology transfer and other miscellaneous legal tasks. This ranges from straightforward studentships to complicated technology licensing arrangements, and the spinning-out of University companies, as well also as arrangements with local NHS hospitals.
Under Nora's guidance, ERI's legal team has developed a web-based resource for business development and academic colleagues to help them handle legal matters. This includes information on Best Practice in Technology Transfer and Guidance on New Law (including Government Regulations and case law). In addition, a number of approved templates have been provided, so that they can be completed quickly and efficiently by business development colleagues.
Prior to joining ERI, Nora was a partner in the well-known Edinburgh firm of Lindsays WS, and headed up their Commercial Department. There Nora had responsibility for the legal work for a number of universities and research institutions. In doing this, Nora gained a great deal of experience in dealing with intellectual property matters. Nora also sat on the Board of Edinburgh's Telford College.
In addition to her other responsibilities, Nora is a Non-Executive Director of Edinburgh University Press Limited.
Nora's other interests have been on hold for several years, as she busies herself with work and bringing up three sons. Sometime in the not too distant future, she will resume reading and the outdoor life. Meanwhile, cooking for the family and listening to Radio 4 are her main recreations.
