Jan was awarded a 1st degree in Physics and a PhD in the Electrical, Optical and Crystallographic Properties of Thin Film Semiconductors, and spent 6 years in industry designing specialised high speed CPU's and memory systems.
He was the company's 6th employee, which subsequently grew to 140 employees during the 6 years of employment. Jan ran the electronics design team for four years and took over the marketing role for the final 2 years. During this period he gained valuable experience of management in a rapid change environment.
He has spent 20 years running spinout and other companies, and joined Lancaster University in 2000 to initiate the 3rd mission activities. The Lancaster Tech Transfer office handles Economic Development (ERDF, ESF), IP commercialisation and Corporate Partnerships and has grown to 35 employees, most of which are delivering EU, HEIF and RDA projects.
He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Physics and the Institution of Electrical Engineers.
