Ian is a Senior Business Manager at Cancer Research Technology Limited (CRT) and leads one of the three teams responsible for commercialising intellectual property in the oncology sector. As well as working with CRT's owner and main client Cancer Research UK, Ian has extensive experience of working internationally and is responsible for business development in the Nordic region covering Norway, Sweden and Finland. Ian serves on the board of Proacta Therapeutics Limited, a biotechnology company spun out by CRT, the Institute of Cancer Research and Auckland University, and which is based in Auckland New Zealand. He is also an observer to the board of another CRT spin out Spirogen.
Prior to joining CRV Ian worked for Medical Research Council Technology, the technology transfer company of the UK Medical Research Council. His portfolio covered a wide range of biomedical science including virology, mycobacteriology and parasitology, as well as basic neurobiology and applied psychology. Whilst at MRCT Ian concluded over 20 licensing deals and was involved in the formation of D-Gen a company spun out from Imperial College and the MRC Prion Unit developing diagnostics and therapeutics for prion diseases such as BSE and Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.
Before moving into technology transfer Ian spent eight years working in the diagnostics industry where he led a research group developing tests for infectious diseases and, latterly, performing due diligence on in-licensed nucleic acid diagnostics. Ian has a Ph.D. in medical microbiology from the University of Leeds.
