Geoff Bell completed an engineering apprenticeship & went on to take an Engineering Degree at Hatfield. Upon completion he joined Thorn EMI as a Research Engineer working on, amongst other things, the ‘Halogen Heat’ concept of cooking by light, heat pumps and refrigeration devices. Whilst at Thorn EMI he completed a Post Grad, Dip. and a Master of Philosophy. He moved to Thorn EMI’s subsidiary Kenwood as Chief Product Development Engineer, then onto Electrolux Cookers as Development Manager. Leaving Electrolux in 1991 he joined a management buyout team of a drinks dispensing equipment company, Homark, in Poole as R & D Director. In 1995 he started his own R & D Company - Saxonking. In 2003 he also joined Bournemouth University as a Senior Lecturer. From October 2006 he took on the role as Commercialisation Manager within the Centre for Research and Knowledge Transfer. In October 2008 the role changed slightly and he became the Innovation & Commercialisation Manager. This has yielded nine commercialisation contracts signed so far for the selling of licences for student and staff generated designs and concepts and a spin out company being formed, Fluvial Innovations Ltd. IP is critical to this activity.
