Edwina Wright is Director of Intellectual Property Development at MRC Technology, the technology transfer company of the UK Medical Research Council. Edwina’s team is responsible for assessment, protection and management of IP across the field of biomedical science, arising in MRC’s research Institutes and Units. The team also takes an active role in commercial exploitation, from facilitating collaboration with industry, marketing and licensing of technologies, to the formation of new companies. In addition to the business of technology transfer, MRCT is also responsible for advising MRC on policy matters relating to IP and interface with industry.
rior to embarking on her career in technology transfer, Edwina was employed as a research scientist at Celltech Group plc for over eight years. She holds a PhD in molecular genetics from the University of Leicester and held successive post-doctoral positions at St George’s Hospital Medical School, London and the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia, before joining MRC in 1996.
