David Walker

Dr Walker received a PhD in optical instrumentation for astronomy in 1980, is Reader in Optical Science at UCL and Director of the Optical Science Laboratory. He developed complex optical instrumentation for some of the world's largest telescopes, before becoming interested in the fabrication and measurement of the lenses and mirrors themselves. After a period of research in this field, he formed Optical Generics Ltd (now called Optical Investments Ltd) in 1994, on receipt of a SMART Stage-1 award. With Richard Freeman, he founded Zeeko Ltd in 2000, and is Technical Director. He is currently establishing the National Centre for Ultra Precision Surfaces in North Wales, with research council funding and in partnership with Zeeko Ltd. He is a member of various steering committees, and chairs the form metrology special interest group at the National Physical Laboratory.
