Dr Colin Urquhart has been Chief Executive Officer of Dimensional Imaging since its incorporation in January 2003. Dimensional Imaging is a spin-out company from the Universities of Glasgow and Edinburgh, which was originally called Virtual Clones and was formed to exploit technology to create highly realistic virtual character versions of real-life people. Colin led the Scottish Enterprise "Proof of Concept" funded commercialisation project within the universities, which led to the establishment of Dimensional Imaging. The company has had to adapt to survive, and is now focussed on much more promising medical imaging applications of its technology.
Colin is a "survivor" of a previous university spin-out company, of which he was founder and Chief Technology Officer. Prior to this, Colin has many years of survival experience with various "start-up" organisations including the Turing Institute and BBN Systems and Technologies. Colin has a PhD in Computing Science from the University of Glasgow and has studied entrepreneurship at the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow Caledonian University Business School and at the University of California at San Diego. Colin is a previous recipient of a prestigious Royal Society of Edinburgh Enterprise Fellowship.
