Angela Kukula

Angela Kukula is Head of Contracts and IPR at Aston University. She is responsible for all of the University's technology transfer activities, the legal and IP framework of sponsored research programmes and for drafting and implementing IP and commercialisation policies for the University.

After graduating from Oxford University with a first class honours degree in Biochemistry, Angela undertook a PhD at the University of London studying childhood immunodeficiency diseases. She then moved to Japan where she spent several years managing international collaborative R & D programmes in the Pharmaceutical industry. On her return to the UK, Angela was awarded a Sainsbury Management Fellowship in Life Sciences and completed an MBA specialising in technology management. Immediately prior to joining Aston, Angela was a project manager at Isis Innovation Ltd., the technology transfer company of the University of Oxford.

Angela has managed portfolios of over 100 patent families and has concluded a number of licensing and commercialisation deals. She has also been instrumental in the establishment of several spin-out companies, on some of which she also acts as director or company secretary. She regularly lectures on innovation and intellectual property matters and has recently completed a master's degree in commercial law. In any spare time she enjoys Asian dance classes and is an enthusiastic gardener.
