Graduated from King’s College London, in Electrical Engineering in 1962. Chartered Engineer and Associate of King’s College. Worked for Ferranti computers, ICT and ICL on commissioning and design of computer hardware; then ICL Industrial Training Manager for graduates and technologists.
In 1973 joined GEC Woods as Training Manager, then Production Management and finally Commercial and Contracts Manager. Spent 1983 to 1987 as Commercial Manager/Director with Fairey Automation Ltd, part of the Pearson Group. Joined the University of Bristol to set up its new Industrial Liaison Office responsible for research support (funding and contractual matters), European Commission activity, intellectual property, company start-up and regional strategy.
Joined the Higher Education Funding Council for England in May 2000; now Director, Business and the Community. Founding Chair of AURIL, the Association for University Research and Industry Links; previously director of several university spin-out companies and first HE Member of the SW Regional Chamber.
