Anthony, who was born in the UK in 1953, qualified as a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Secretary with Deloitte Haskins & Sells (now PWC) between 1977 and 1980.
Thereafter, he worked on a full time basis as a Finance Director and Chief Executive of a number of privately owned SME companies and from 1996 to 2002 was exclusively involved as a Business Angel Investor/Non Executive Director of five early stage businesses whilst also running the London Business Angels Network from 1998. He created the first model for business angels co investing with a VC Fund on a structured side by side basis leading to the formation of London Seed Capital (LSC) which was the Government's first early growth fund launched in December 2002. He is also an Investment committee member of LSC and has personally invested alongside LSC in each investment made to date by the Fund.
He joined the Board of British Business Angels Association (BBAA) formerly National Business Angels Network (NBAN) in 2003 and has been its Chair since September 2004. He joined the board of European Business Angels Network (EBAN) in 2003 and was elected President in May 2004. EBAN is based in Brussels. He is currently responsible for managing the outputs of the secretariat staff of both of these organisations. He is also a Board member of London's Science and Industry Council (Catalyst) which is chaired by Sir Richard Sykes.
Anthony created the model for the UK's first Enterprise Capital Fund being Seraphim Capital which was launched in October 2006. Seraphim is a new innovative £30m Fund comprising £20m of Government funds with £10m of private funds provided by Corporate Venturers and business angels. Seraphim is an angel co investment fund typically investing £750,000 alongside business angels when making its first round of investment in an SME. Anthony is Managing Director of Seraphim Capital and Managing Director of GLE Growth Capital which encompasses London Business Angels and London Seed Capital. London Business Angels is the UK's longest standing Business Angel Network having been founded in 1982.
