Matthew Carpenter

Matt Carpenter is the Intellectual Property Rights Manager within Research & Innovation, the University of Strathclyde’s research contracts and commercialisation office. Matt joined R&I in 2004 and has primary responsibility for the protection and management of the University’s IP portfolio. His remit reaches across the breadth of the University’s research base from science and engineering through to law arts and social sciences. Strathclyde’s IP portfolio comprises on average 90 – 100 live patent families with 10 – 15 new priority filings per year and a small number of registered trademarks. Matt also has day-to-day responsibility for management of the University’s IPR budget.

Before joining Strathclyde, Matt was employed for 2 years as a technical adviser for Invitrogen Life Technologies and prior to that as a post-doctoral research fellow at Imperial College London, funded by a spin out company of the university. Matt has a PhD in Immunology from Imperial College and a BSc in Biomedical Sciences from the University of the West of England.
