Kate Darby completed her BA in Management and Business Administration in 1996, followed by a postgraduate diploma in Marketing in 1997 and an MBA in 2000, both whilst working full time. She has worked in knowledge transfer at the University of Reading for 11 years and been involved in developing and managing a wide range of research and knowledge transfer projects during that time. Knowledge Transfer Partnerships have formed the core of this activity, with Kate’s team developing and managing up to 50 projects at any one time, across a very broad range of disciplines from History to the Sciences, taking in Business and Typography along the way.
In September 2007 Kate’s role expanded beyond Knowledge Transfer Partnerships, Step (Summer placements for undergraduates) and research management, to a wider role as Head of Knowledge Transfer for the University. This involves promoting and developing collaborative projects between academics, industry and, where appropriate, the third sector to take advantage of funding opportunities, as well as developing proposals and business plans for research council KT funding schemes which involve industry.
