Karen Lewis

Karen is Head of the BBSRC’s Business and Innovation Unit, with lead responsibility for BBSRC’s Knowledge Transfer activities and interaction with business. Karen is also involved in a number of cross Research Council innovation activities including for example chairing the Research Council Business Plan Competition Project Board. Karen is also a member of various external groups including the Bioscience Sector Steering Group for the Sector Skills Council, SEMTA and Steering Groups for the BioprocessUK and Sensors & Instrumentation Knowledge Transfer Networks. Karen is a microbiologist by training having undertaken a first degree in Biology at the University of Nottingham which led to a PhD at the University of Sheffield and Postdoctoral research at the University of Lancaster. Karen also has 5 years experience in industrial R&D at Biocatalysts Ltd and Zeneca Agrochemicals (now Syngenta). Karen has extensive experience within BBSRC where she has undertaken various roles, working both within the responsive mode Research Committees and Directorates before becoming involved in BBSRC Innovation activities.
