Jonathan Ball

After discovering design at ‘A’ level Jonathan graduated in product design from Manchester Polytechnic in 1979. For 17 years he worked as an in-house designer and design manager for a number of manufacturing companies with the bulk of his work making it into production. He has designed products as diverse as toys and toilet seats, giftware and street furniture as well as industrial products for the oil, fishing and forestry sectors. Everything manufactured has been a commercial success.

Jonathan’s introduction to business support was with Business Link where, for five years, he worked as a design adviser to small and medium sized businesses, a role that capitalised on the best of his experience in industry. This was the springboard to his current work as an independent design strategist and specialist in business support. Current customers include the Design Council where Jonathan was a part of the original team who created the Generate and Immerse services of the ground breaking Designing Demand programme. He is also jointly responsible for the recruitment and coaching of Designing Demand Design Associates.

As a Design Associate his clients for Designing Demand have included AGA-Rayburn (cast iron range cookers), Harrison Fisher (kitchen knives), Naylor Industries (drainage pipes), Ibstock Brick and the Tabletop Group (domestic tableware).

The tenet for his career has been to deliver business success through design. Designmine Ltd, 94 Burnley Road, Bacup, Lancashire OL13 8DB
