David Way

David Way is Director of Operations in the Technology Strategy Board, a newly created executive non-Departmental Public Body reporting to the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills. They promote and support research into, and development and exploitation of, science and technology and new ideas for the benefit of business, in order to increase sustainable economic growth and improve the quality of life. He leads the team of technologists within the TSB responsible for developing our priority key technology and market application areas, and also the team that delivers the collaborative R&D projects, Knowledge Transfer Networks (KTNs) and Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) to their business customers.

David read the Engineering Tripos at Cambridge University, graduating with First Class Honours. He then worked on a broad range of military and civil air vehicle and propulsion research and assessment at the Royal Aerospace Establishment, now part of QinetiQ.

Following a year on secondment at the Royal College of Defence Studies, David joined the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in 2000 in the role of Director Aerospace & Defence Technologies, with responsibility for promoting the technology interests of the UK aerospace sector within government. During this time he worked closely with the UK Aerospace Innovation and Growth Team. He then transferred to Innovation Group (latterly the Office of Science and Innovation) where he was responsible for developing and delivering the Technology Programme to promote UK wealth creation, and also for the National Measurement System.

David is a chartered engineer and a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society. He is married to Susan, a Newfoundlander, and has two post-teenage sons, Timothy and Robert. He was until recently chair of governors of the local comprehensive school, and other out-of-work interests include camping, gardening and travel.
