Andy Cureton

Andy joined the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) in 2003 as an Innovation Programme Manager within the Business and Innovation Unit. As part of this role he managed a number of the schemes that promote the transfer of knowledge from academia into business including Biotechnology Young Entrepreneurs Scheme, Enterprise Fellowships and the Industry Interchange Programme. Andy is currently the Business Interaction Manager at BBSRC and is responsible for the development and delivery of BBSRC’s research programmes which underpin the needs of the bio-based industries.

Prior to joining BBSRC Andy was a Midlands Medici Fellow at the University of Birmingham. This year long fellowship allowed him to focus on the commercialisation of biosciences research within the university and to get training and experience in business. During the Fellowship Andy successfully initiated several projects to exploit research discoveries.

Andy graduated from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth with a BSc in Biochemistry and Genetics. He went on to complete a PhD, researching gene flow between GM crops and wild crop relatives, at the University of Birmingham.
